Julius Malema has been re-elected as the President of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) for the next five years. This decision was made during the party’s National People’s Assembly, where Malema ran unopposed and received overwhelming endorsement from the party’s voting delegates.
Malema’s re-election marks his third term as EFF President, a position he has held since the party’s inception 11 years ago. The newly elected top six leaders include:
- President: Julius Malema
- Deputy President: Godrich Gardee
- National Chairperson: Nontando Nolutshungu
- Treasurer General: Omphile Maotwe
- Secretary-General: Marshall Dlamini
- Secretary-General: Leigh-Ann Mathys
The EFF has also reaffirmed its commitment to gender equity, with women occupying 50% of the positions in the party’s central command team (CCT). Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi confirmed that the nomination process was free and fair, and complied with the EFF’s constitution.
However, the assembly was not without controversy, as the absence of EFF national spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi sparked speculation about internal discord. Malema dismissed concerns about Ndlozi’s absence, emphasizing that the assembly’s focus should not be reduced to any single individual.
With the new leadership team in place, the EFF is poised to tackle the next phase of its political journey, remaining resolute in its vision for economic freedom and social justice.
