On 19 September 2025, the Justice Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster hosted a major community outreach program at Mthatha Stadium. Led by Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ms. Moloko Kubayi, and Minister of Police, Professor. Firoz Cachelia, the JCPS Imbizo addressed crime concerns raised by residents of the King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality.

What Happened

The JCPS Imbizo drew hundreds of community members who voiced concerns about house break-ins, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), rape, extortion, and violent crimes affecting businesses.

The JCPS Cluster, which brings together justice, police, courts, and correctional services, emphasized collaboration to protect communities, uphold safety, and strengthen human rights.

Official Response

Ministers Kubayi and Cachelia acknowledged community frustrations and assured residents that government remains committed to combating crime at all levels.

“We urge communities not to remain silent in the face of crime. Report incidents immediately and make use of the law enforcement support system,” said Minister Kubayi.

Police Minister Professor Cachelia added that law enforcement structures are being reinforced to respond faster to crimes and strengthen public trust.

Community Impact

Local residents welcomed the imbizo, noting it gave them a platform to express concerns directly to national leaders. Community leaders said they hope the promises made will translate into visible policing and stronger protections against GBV and organized crime. This is the first time many of us feel our voices are being heard at this level, said a community activist.

The outreach also provided information booths, where residents accessed legal advice, safety resources, and reporting mechanisms for abuse and crimes.
