Janusz Walus was stabbed on Tuesday by a fellow inmate, this happens after the Constitutional Court ordered Walus to be released on parole.
He has been behind bars serving a life sentence, for assassinating the leader of South African Communist Party (SACP) Chris Hani in 1993, in the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Tshwane.
Walus was taken to the hospital section of the prison and the correctional services department said he was stable.
“A detailed incident report is to be provided at a later stage, but what can be stated at this point is that inmate Walus is stable and healthcare officials are providing the necessary care. Stabbing and other forms of disturbances are offences not warranted in a correctional environment and this case will be investigated.” said Singabakho Nxumalo, a National Spokesperson of Department of Correctional Services
