The Ingquza Hill Local Municipality (IHLM) warns residents about a rise in job and tender scams. Fraudsters impersonate municipal officials and demand money for fake opportunities.

What Happened
IHLM has seen a sharp increase in scams involving people pretending to work in the municipality’s recruitment section. These scammers call, text, or send voice notes promising jobs or tenders in exchange for upfront payments. Victims report offers for positions like assistant clerk or technical tenders. However, IHLM confirms none of these offers are real. No official jobs or tenders require payment.
Some scammers use fake names and roles. For example, “Rev. Maqhubela” called from 083 871 1048, claiming to be with the water and sanitation department in Lusikisiki. He promised a job paying R8,500 in exchange for money. Others include “Samkelo Wana,” who said he is Acting Director of Technical Services, and “Mr. Nozulu,” who claimed to work in Labour Relations. They all ask for money before offering jobs.
Official Response
The municipality strongly condemns these fraudulent activities. A spokesperson said, “IHLM advertises vacancies and tenders only on official platforms. We never ask for upfront payments. Anyone demanding money is a scammer.”
To fight these scams, IHLM is stepping up awareness campaigns using various channels. Residents should stay alert and report suspicious calls or messages.

Community Impact
These scams prey on vulnerable community members facing tough economic times. The municipality warns, “If a job requires payment, it is not from IHLM.” Public awareness and caution are vital to protect the community from losing money and trust.
