On 15 October 2025, the Ingquza Hill Local Municipality (IHLM) officially introduced two companies that will install and repair high-mast lights across several wards. The announcement took place at the Ingquza Hill Local Municipality Driver’s Licence Testing Centre (DLTC), where Mayor P.N. Pepping presented the appointed service providers and outlined the project’s goals.
What Happened
Two companies will install and maintain high-mast lights across several wards:
YG Solutions will handle installations in Ward 01 (Thembukazi), Ward 02 (KwaBhutshu), Ward 03 (Norhatsaha), Ward 05 (Lwandlalana), and Ward 16 (Malangeni J.S.S.). Masilo Projects will cover Ward 09 (Balasi Junction), Ward 10 (JB), Ward 12 (Buhlanyanga S.S.S.), Ward 13 (Six Trees), and Ward 25 (Mathaba Village). It will run for four months and create 20 local jobs in nearby communities.
Meanwhile, YG Solutions will also repair lights already installed in Ward 06 (Flagstaff Healthcare Centre), Ward 09 (Sigubudwini), and Ward 14 (Ngobozana) over the next three months.
Official Response
Moyar Pepping said the project will improve visibility in communities and enhance safety, especially at night. He urged contractors to deliver quality work that matches the investment made by the municipality. “The work must match the value of the funds spent. Quality service will ensure that our people benefit for many years,” said Mayor Pepping.
He further reminded residents to protect the new infrastructure and avoid vandalism or theft of the lights.
Community Impact
The project aims to reduce crime, improve night-time safety, and help learners study after dark. Additionally, the project supports the municipality’s ongoing effort to improve infrastructure and community well-being.
