
Recent floods in the O.R. Tambo District left many families struggling, with learners losing essential school items. To ensure education continues, SASSA has stepped in with immediate relief.
Step 1: Identify Affected Learners
SASSA confirmed that 139 learners in the district lost their school uniforms due to flood damage, affecting their ability to attend school.
Step 2: Leadership and Support
The relief effort was led by SASSA Eastern Cape Regional Executive Manager, Bandile Maqetuka, in partnership with the MEC for Social Development.
Step 3: Provide New School Uniforms
Brand new uniforms were handed over to learners, restoring dignity, confidence, and the pride of returning to school.

SASSA’s intervention ensures that no learner’s education is disrupted by natural disasters beyond their control.
