Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa will lead a high-level event in Nyandeni on 19 November, where government and private sector leaders will promote new investment opportunities through the Eastern Seaboard Development (ESD) initiative.
What Happened
Government is rolling out a strategic drive to attract investment in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. The ESD programme, under the District Development Model (DDM), aims to drive rural development and create long-term jobs.
Leaders from national and provincial government, traditional authorities and the private sector will meet to discuss key opportunities, including:
- Upgrading infrastructure in rural areas
- Boosting sectors like energy, agriculture, tourism, and transport
- Launching the InvestRural strategy
- Creating jobs through local partnerships
This multi-stakeholder forum will also showcase available sector-specific projects to potential investors
Official Response
“The ESD is about real transformation. It’s not just policy — it’s jobs, it’s roads, it’s water,” said Minister Hlabisa. He will be joined by Deputy Minister Dr Namane Masemola and MEC Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi.
In addition, Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane and KZN Premier Thami Ntuli will present provincial plans to support the initiative. Organisers say the event reflects a shared commitment to fast-tracking development through practical collaboration.
Community Impact
For communities like Nyandeni, the initiative offers real potential. If successful, it could improve services, attract infrastructure funding, and support small business development.
