The Eastern Cape Department of Health in partnership with Ingqaka group and other organisations embarked on a Medical outreach program in honour of SA women who fought for liberation.
The department took a decision to commemorate the women’s month in a different style and brought approximately 26 doctors to the rural areas.
In line with the women’s month commemoration Eastern Cape MEC Nomakhisazana Meth visited ward 12, kwa-Nophoyi, under Umzimvubu local municipality to empower women from disadvantaged areas.
Doctor Ntshulana from Ingqaka group said they are here for primary health care outreach, mostly based on the screening of patients and management of chronic conditions. Their goal is to find patients who have been missing from the system so they can refer them back and improve primary healthcare system quality in South Africa.
The program focuses more on rural areas.
Residents came out in numbers to get health services. Patients were given Wheelchairs, walking sticks, and eyeglasses, and some were referred to nearby hospitals.
“I woke up at 3 a.m. today rushing for these services. I suffer from arthritis and I hope that today I will be assisted,” said MamBhele from Mgungundlovu Kwa-Bhaca.
“We are happy that the Health services have been brought to our community since we are far from town and Madzikane Hospital. Ambulances take about 2 hours to get to us. Honestly, we are in need of clinics and a police station in our village,” said Aluncedo Rhuleni ward 12 committee at Kwa-Nophoyi.
