Mount Ayliff Stop Discount Furniture lost half a million furniture on fire on Monday night. It is the fourth shop to be set on fire this year following Lewis furniture store and two Ethiopian shops.
Nontembiso Mehlwana the Arial manager says they received a call from the security company that the alarm was out active, few minutes after they received another call that the shop was on fire.
“The incident happened between 7-8 o’clock after the load-shedding even though we do not know the cause of the fire, we assume that it was caused by the power utility,” said Mehlwana
She further emphasis the gratitude Stop Discount Furniture sends to the Mount Ayliff Police Department and Mount Ayliff Disaster Department for their sense of emergency.
I would like to passwords of thanks to the department of police and disaster for emergency reaction to the matter because if not for them other businesses would have been affected and also police made sure that there was no looting. – said Mehlwana
However, it is a worrying factor to Mount Ayliff communities that thus far in 2023 there are 4 businesses that suffered the same disaster, and no one knows the cause.
Mount Ayliff resident Lindiwe Memela says they are worried about their town because they want to see it develop but with these fire incidents it seems like the town is going backward.
As much as I do not know the reason for these fire incidents, I think our municipality needs to pay more attention to these businesses’ electricity because it might happen that there are poor connections or something with them. – said Memela
