The Greater Kokstad Municipality has extended its support to matriculants by handing over groceries to several high schools across the region, including Franklin High, Shayamoya High, Mount Currie, Carl Malcomess, and Thembalethu Secondary School. The initiative, led by Mayor Lwanda Madikizela, seeks to motivate Grade 12 learners currently writing their final examinations.
What Happened
On 11 November 2025, Mayor Madikizela and other local stakeholders visited schools across Kokstad to distribute food parcels to matric students. The gesture, which came at a crucial stage of the exam season, was aimed at reducing stress and encouraging learners to focus fully on their studies.
Each school received a consignment of groceries, ensuring that learners, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, had access to nutritious meals during their examinations.
“Education is the foundation of a better future. We are here to show our learners that their hard work matters, and their community stands behind them,” said Mayor Lwanda Madikizela.

Municipal officials emphasized that this outreach aligns with the Greater Kokstad Municipality’s vision of being “A People’s-Centered City of Economic Possibilities by 2047.” The initiative was also supported by local sponsors and educational partners who shared the municipality’s goal of empowering youth through education.
