The Greater Kokstad Municipality has intensified its infrastructure maintenance program this month. The Infrastructure and Technical Services Department continues to repair roads and stormwater systems across key areas, ensuring safer and more reliable transport routes for residents.
What Happened?
The municipality’s latest service delivery efforts focus on road overlays, pothole patching, and stormwater drainage cleaning.
Recent work includes:
- A road overlay at Hagan Place
- Pothole repairs along Elliot Street (between R56 and Brownlee Street) and the Shayamoya taxi route
- Drainage maintenance on Elliot Street (between Coulter and Barclay), Barker Street (between Hope and Hawthorne), and in Bhongweni, Horse Shoe, and Shayamoya
Municipal officials said these interventions are part of an ongoing program to enhance infrastructure resilience and reduce road hazards, especially during the rainy season.
Official Response
A spokesperson for the Greater Kokstad Municipality commended the Infrastructure and Technical Services team for their continuous effort to improve living conditions.
“Our goal is to maintain safe, accessible, and durable infrastructure for all residents. These upgrades are part of our broader plan to sustain efficient service delivery and road safety,” the spokesperson said.
The municipality also urged residents to report road or drainage issues through official service channels to ensure swift responses.
Community Impact
Residents have welcomed the maintenance works, noting visible improvements in traffic flow and drainage efficiency. Local taxi operators in Shayamoya said the repairs have made routes smoother and safer for daily commuters.
