  • Details of the Domestic Violence Incident: Majeke allegedly entered his wife’s bedroom, demanded her phone, and assaulted her when she refused, leading to police intervention and his arrest.
  • Victim’s Concerns and Safety Risks: The complainant expressed fear for her life, citing past assaults and concerns about his connections within the police potentially impacting her safety and access to protection.

Eastern Cape, the Port Elizabeth Regional Court has denied bail to Xolani Russell Majeke (56) after he was charged with violating a protection order following an alleged domestic violence incident on 19 July 2025 in Parsons Hill, Gqeberha.

Majeke, who is the husband of the complainant, was served with the protection order on 11 February 2025. It stopped him from abusing her or their children. According to allegations, he entered her bedroom, demanded her cellphone, and when she refused, pinned her down, choked her, and threatened to kill her. She managed to contact police, who responded and arrested him.

In her sworn statement, the complainant expressed fear for her life, referring to past assaults in front of their teenage children and his aggressive behaviour when intoxicated. She also said his connections in the police might interfere with her safety and access to protection.

Prosecutor Asavela Dweba strongly opposed bail, stating that Majeke is a threat to the complainant, their children, and others, and could attempt to intimidate or harm her. The court agreed, stating that the interests of justice outweighed his request for release.

Majeke also has a previous conviction for driving under the influence.

Eastern Cape Director of Public Prosecutions Barry Madolo welcomed the ruling, saying: “This sends a clear message — protection orders are not symbolic. Violations will face the full weight of the law.”

The case has been postponed to 07 October 2025 for further investigation.
