South Africa is mourning the death of Tshidi Madia, the Associate Politics Editor at Eyewitness News (EWN), whose fearless reporting and principled voice shaped the nation’s democratic discourse.

Government described her as a “beacon of integrity and a voice of reason” who held leaders accountable while fostering public trust through her political reporting and acclaimed podcast Politricking with Tshidi Madia.

The South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) also issued a statement, calling her a “revered journalist” whose sharp political insight and mentorship left a lasting impact on the profession.

The African National Congress (ANC) joined in mourning, hailing Madia as a journalist who “told South Africa’s story with courage, intellect, and deep respect for truth”.

Madia rose to prominence for her sharp analysis of South Africa’s political landscape and her ability to bring clarity during moments of international scrutiny, including countering false claims about “white genocide.”

She is remembered not only for her professionalism, but also for mentoring young journalists and giving the public direct, unfiltered access to political debates.

Condolences continue to pour in from political leaders, colleagues, and fellow journalists. Government, SANEF, and the ANC have all extended sympathies to her family, friends, and the wider media fraternity.

“Her legacy of truth, courage, and dedication will continue to inspire future generations of journalists,” GCIS said in its statement.
