The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Mimmy Gondwe, has applauded Goldfields TVET College for raising nearly R300 000 to support infrastructure and skills development. The funds were secured during a gala dinner hosted with the local business community in Welkom on Friday, 21 August 2025.
The initiative brought together about 20 businesses from sectors including mining, retail, and finance, alongside entrepreneurs and academics. A total of R278 250 was pledged, a united effort to strengthen the TVET sector and advance skills training.
Standard Bank contributed the largest share with a donation of R200 000 directed towards skills development. Other pledges included Absa with R20 000, Nomnga Properties with R20 000, Tailormade Trading with R15 000, Coltech with R5 000, and the Khatatso Nkeane Foundation with R5 000. Individual contributions amounted to R13 250, while Deputy Minister Gondwe personally pledged R2 000.
Expressing her gratitude, Dr Gondwe praised the college for driving a successful initiative. “Every contribution, no matter how small, helps us move closer to meaningful change. We are grateful to all businesses and individuals who supported this cause, with a special acknowledgment to Standard Bank for their generous contribution,” she said.
Goldfields TVET Principal, Mr Francis Mahlangu, commended the Deputy Minister’s leadership and said her involvement strengthened the college’s commitment to aligning with the national skills agenda. Dr Gondwe emphasised that partnerships between TVET colleges and businesses are key to producing graduates with skills relevant to the economy.
