Today, July 6, 2022, is the mass burial ceremony for the 21 teenagers who sadly died at Enyobeni Tavern in East London. Two of the tragically deceased 21 patrons of the Enyobeni Tavern in East London will be laid to rest today. Nineteen empty coffins were transported to the Scenery Park Sports Ground where the funeral service is taking place. Only two funerals are scheduled for today the 6th of July, 10 funerals are scheduled for Saturday; further funerals are scheduled for Friday and Sunday.
The mother the youngest victim of the Enyobeni disaster (Thembinkosi Silwane), was said to have a difficult time adjusting to his passing. Last week, 20 young people, including the 13-year-old Silwane, died in a bar in East London’s Scenery Park. Nontobeko Ngqandu, a family spokesman for the 13-year-old victim, claims that Thembinkosi’s mother is still unstable.
Elaine Gogo, a representative of the funeral parlour, claims that an agreement over the procedure was reached with the victims’ relatives. according to Gogo, the families decided that they had to bring the coffins without the children. The relatives of those who will be buried after this service will travel to their agency’s funeral parlour in Mdantsane to pick up their loved ones for a private burial, The evidence that resulted in the killings last month is still being investigated by forensic experts.
