Following a manhunt launched by Dealesville Detective Services, led by Detective Constable Xolani Ndavuza, the Free State police arrested a male suspect in connection with the grisly murder of a secondary school teacher in Dealesville, Free State.

Captain Stephen Thakeng of SAPS stated that the police team successfully tracked down the suspect to his residence, where he was apprehended after he was found in possession of the deceased’s belongings. The deceased was identified as Mosiwa Tshabagae, a teacher at Kgololosego Secondary School.

“The suspect was traced and arrested at his residence and found wearing clothes of the deceased and shoes. He had an open visible wound on his hand and was also in possession of the bank card belonging to the victim. While members were searching, a laptop and the victim’s jacket, covered with blood, were recovered,” said Cpt. Thakeng.

According to authorities, earlier, members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) responded to a complaint at the teachers’ residence on the premises of Kgololosego Secondary School.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police were informed by three women that the victim, an educator, could not be reached via phone,” police revealed.

The victim was later found by SAPS members inside his residence, covered with a blanket.

“There were blood stains on the walls, a beer bottle was also full of blood, broken glasses in the kitchen and the toilet window was left wide open which was used to gained entrance inside the premises,” said police.

He was declared dead by paramedics. The deceased’s valuables, such as cellphones, laptops, bank cards, groceries and school keys, and clothes, were missing.

The 24-year-old suspect is charged with house robbery, murder, and possession of suspected stolen property. He is scheduled to appear before the Dealesville Magistrate’s Court on September 25, 2024.
