Nomandithini Metu has graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Fort Hare

40-year-old- Nomandithini Metu has graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing during the University of Fort Hare spring graduation. Earlier this month she made her mark, being the first to graduate in her family.

The Mdantsane born woman used to be a vendor  since 2010 until she decided to go back to tertiary and fulfill her dream, after securing admission in 2017.

She is a divorcee and a single parent to three children aged between 7 and 18. Metu speaks to the Pondoland Times elaborating that her journey has not been an easy one as there were challenges.

Leaving my former work as a vendor was  tough. I had to start selling clothing items in order to finance myself and my children. – she said

Metu did not only endure the financial challenges only, she also experienced health related issues that drove her close to the edge of dropping out of the university.

“My mother took my children under her care. Family and lecturers gave me the greatest support and that is what kept me going” said Metu

“Perseverance and being disciplined helped me reach my triumph. Against all odds I made it” she said
