Soccer fans of The Republic of Zambia mourn the loss of their national hero Philemon Mulala. Mulala was attacked to death by his dogs at the age of 60.

This fatal accident happened at his home in Lichtenberg, South Africa.

He was found dead by his wife in the garden and according to the police report, she was busy on the other side of the house they shared because the electricity went out when the dogs attacked her beloved husband.

Mulala moved to South Africa during his career and continued to live in South Africa even after his career ended.

Mulala was part of the acclaimed “Chipolopolo” generation during the 1980s. After Zambia’s independence in 1964, these were the vintages that were able to achieve success for the sovereign state with the national team for the first time.

Mulala scored twice in 1984 semi-finals of the CECAFA Cup in a win over Kenya to secure a place in the final. Zambia eventually beat Malawi as well and ended up winning a tournament for the first time ever.
