The Acting District Commissioner of the Sarah Baartman District, Brigadier Asogran Naidoo, has welcomed the sentencing of former Port Alfred police station commander, Colonel Ncamisa Donkrag, after she was convicted on two counts of fraud for defrauding the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Colonel Donkrag was sentenced on Friday, 9 May 2025, by the Port Alfred Regional Court after pleading guilty to submitting false travel claims in 2022. On two separate occasions, she claimed to have travelled using her private vehicle for official duties, receiving a total reimbursement of R12,767.80 from SAPS.
- In May 2022, Donkrag claimed to have travelled from Port Alfred to Port Edward, Mount Ayliff (eMaxesibeni), Mzamba, and the Wild Coast. She was reimbursed R8,062.58.
- In September 2022, she submitted another false claim for travel to Zwelitsha and Addo, pocketing an additional R4,705.25.
The court combined both counts for sentencing and handed down a five-year wholly suspended sentence on condition that Donkrag is not convicted of theft or fraud during the suspension period. She was also ordered to repay the full amount to SAPS.
Brigadier Naidoo expressed satisfaction with the outcome:
“This sentence will serve as a deterrent to those who may be tempted to commit similar offences. Such an outcome reflects that no matter what position one holds in the SAPS, nobody is above the law,” he stated.
He also praised the Anti-Corruption Unit for their diligent investigation and reaffirmed SAPS’ commitment to integrity within its ranks:
“SAPS expects all its employees to serve with diligence and honour. We urge our members to continue fighting crimes such as fraud and corruption.”
The conviction reinforces SAPS’ stance on accountability and sends a strong message across the law enforcement sector.
