Holy Cross, Ingquza Hill – Skilled 26-year-old winger and attacking midfielder Khwezi Rula has embarked on the biggest journey of his football career, securing a trial opportunity with a top-tier club in Spain. Coming from the renowned Rula footballing family, Khwezi follows in the footsteps of his uncle, former Mthatha Bucks star Mongi Rula, and Mongi’s younger brother Pele, both widely celebrated for their footballing prowess.
Khwezi’s passion for football was ignited at the tender age of five, and he quickly made a name for himself at Amaphekula FC, a well-respected local team in Holy Cross. His talent saw him rise through the ranks, earning a promotion to the senior team by 2013. Seeking further growth, he moved to Cape Town for schooling, where he joined Chippa United’s under-19 team. He excelled at Chippa, but his tenure was cut short when the club relocated to Gqeberha mid-season. Committed to his education, Khwezi opted not to follow the club and instead seized an opportunity with Old Mutual Academy.
Upon completing Grade 12, Khwezi joined Mamkhize’s Royal Eagles Development team, eventually earning a promotion to the senior squad. However, the club faced instability following Mamkhize’s divorce, leading to major disruptions and player departures. Despite this setback, Khwezi remained determined, drawing strength from his supportive family.
His perseverance paid off when Terresso, a scouting and management agency, took notice of his performances in the Castle League. After closely monitoring him for six months, they facilitated his trials in Spain, opening the door to what could be a life-changing opportunity.
“I’m very excited, and this is an unbelievable opportunity of my lifetime. I would dedicate my achievement to my family and the youth at large if I sign with the club here,” an elated Khwezi said.
The Pondoland Times and its entire staff extend their best wishes to Khwezi Rula as he takes this significant step in his football career.
