The First National Bank has decided to rebrand and change their infamous acacia tree logo it was known for after 35 years to a more digital look. The bank has also introduced new features for the bankers but these changes might just have sparked a few unpleasant backlash from customers.

A statement that was released on Friday states that FNB had to redesigned the platform to allow customers to “personalize their FNB app by customizing its home screen and selecting frequenting used or preferred features”.

FNB CEO, Jacques Celliers says the changes are to benefit and better the customers experience with the banking group as well as to free cash flow through best value money solutions that make their money to go further to realize their investment and insurance needs in line with their groups (Business Tech).

We want to help customers through various life stages for themselves, their families and their businesses, and to ensure we advise them on the right solutions for their needs, – he said

However, regardless of the positive reasons behind the rebranding of the banking group customers had a handful of comments on the changes.

The following comments were taken from tweets under the FNB tweet within the past three days:

“App changes make sense. The logo however is a textbook example of why we are encouraged not to fix things that aren’t broken… You paid someone to make your customers unhappy”

“The app changes are also terrible. It has reduced visibility and I have to take a while to figure which symbol stands for what function. The old app was colorful, easy to use and symbols were clear”

“I’m all for the change and improvement, but here you’ve lost your resemblance of the acacia tree and by extension your resemblance of South Africa”.
