Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality Executive Mayor, Coucillor Princess Faku, on 10 September 2025 led councillors, administrators, and contractors to several key construction sites across the Metro. The visits included Marina Glen–Ebuhlanti, Nahoon, Gonubie Quenera roads, and Oceanway, where major infrastructure and tourism-related projects are underway.
What Happened
The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality is moving urgently to complete the R10 million Marina Glen–Ebuhlanti upgrade, a flagship recreational and tourism hub. The precinct is one of Buffalo City’s most popular attractions, drawing both locals and visitors.
At Nahoon, Faku inspected progress on the Galway Road Bridge project, funded through the Disaster Grant at a cost of R12 million. The bridge was damaged during the June 2024 floods and is being rebuilt to improve water flow along the Inhlanza Stream and enhance traffic safety between Galway Road and Mackenzie Street.
The delegation also visited the R100 million Gonubie Quenera Road and internal road upgrades, where workers are steadily pushing ahead with construction.
Official Response
Mayor Faku stressed the urgency of delivering these projects.
“These upgrades are not just about infrastructure. They are about restoring confidence, boosting tourism, and creating safer, accessible spaces for our people,” she said.
Municipal officials added that the funds allocated must be used efficiently to ensure projects are completed without further delays.
Community Impact
The Marina Glen–Ebuhlanti project is expected to give a major boost to Buffalo City’s recreational and tourism sector, strengthening the local economy. In Nahoon, residents and commuters will benefit from improved road safety and better flood management once the Galway Road Bridge is complete. Meanwhile, the Quenera and internal road upgrades will ease traffic congestion and improve access in Gonubie.
Local communities say these developments could create much-needed jobs and stimulate business opportunities across the Metro.
