Police in Engcobo have arrested a 29-year-old man after he was found carrying an unlicensed firearm during a patrol in the town’s Central Business District (CBD) on Monday evening, 1 September 2025.

According to authorities, members of the Engcobo Crime Prevention Unit were on routine patrol at around 19:00 when they received a tip-off about a man carrying a firearm. Officers moved quickly and identified a suspect matching the description.

A search led to the discovery of a silver firearm with no license. The man was arrested on the spot. A preliminary investigation later connected the weapon and the suspect to a murder case that took place in the Cobosi Administration Area in August 2025.

Police confirmed that the man appeared before the Engcobo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm. The murder case linked to him is has since been heard on the 3 September 2025.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing and more charges may follow as the case develops.
