The Engen garage in EmaXesibeni remains closed following a harrowing incident in the early hours of the morning, where the premises were targeted by unknown assailants in a bomb attack around 12:30 a.m.
The employees of the garage have been left deeply shocked and traumatized by the terrifying experience of being subjected to such criminal violence.
As a result of the attack, EmaXesibeni residents are currently facing a fuel shortage, as the garage is closed and has sustained significant damage from the explosion. Reports indicate that all funds within the establishment were stolen during the incident, and one employee has been injured and is receiving medical care under the supervision of Mount Alyif health staff.
Expressing concern over the unprecedented nature of the crime in the area, a spokesperson for the Alfred Nzo Municipality stated, “The Municipality is shocked by this incident as it is not among the most common crimes in the district.” They further added, “They trust that SAPS will swiftly track down these thugs and bring them to book.”
While police arrived promptly after the incident, no arrests have been made yet. However, a robbery case has been filed at the EmaXesibeni police station, and investigations are ongoing.
In light of the situation, both the Steers and Engen Garage establishments will remain closed until further notice, pending the completion of investigations. Residents are advised to ensure they have sufficient petrol from nearby garages in Kwa Bhaca and Kokstad.
The incident has left the community of EmaXesibeni shaken and living in fear, as they grapple with the aftermath of the shocking events that have unfolded in their hometown.
