VICTIMS OF NDWEDWE MASS SHOOTING LAID TO REST

Police investigations revealed that two gunmen intruded into a house at Makanda Street, KwaZakhele in Gqeberha Eastern Cape where the owner of the house was celebrating his birthday.

Between 17:15 & 17:30 on Sunday evening 29 January 2023, the two unknown gunmen started shooting at the guests who attended the party. A total of seven people, three males and four females died on the scene and the victim succumbed to injuries while in hospital bringing the number of tjw deceased to eight.

Other three victims sustained gunshot wounds and they were taken to hospital for further medical treatment. The owner of the house was counted amongst the dead.

The police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and still conducting investigations on the attack. However, no arrests have been made at this stage.

Eastern Cape Police Commissioner,  Luitenent General Nomthetheleli Mene has strongly condemned the attack which resulted to the death of eight people and injuring three.

Minister of Police General Bheki Cele and the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Fannie Masemola will lead a delegation of various experts within the organization to the crime scene in Makanda Street. This delegation is expected in the area at 11am on Monday, 30 January 2023.
