The Economic Freedom Fighters Ingquza Hill Sub-Regional Command Team visited Bhota Sigcawu Senior Secondary School in Ward 18, Lusikisiki, after community members raised concerns about the conditions facing learners and teachers.
What Happened
The visit was led by Sub-Regional Command Team Secretary Mvuyisi Mavatulana. The delegation met with parents, teachers, and community leaders to assess the conditions. Residents said the school remained unsafe and needed immediate intervention.
Despite these challenges, Bhota Sigcawu Senior Secondary School achieved a 91% matric pass rate last year. Parents said the results showed the commitment of educators and learners, even under difficult circumstances.
Official Response
During the meeting, the Economic Freedom Fighters delegation emphasized the urgent need for the Department of Education to intervene. They said the current environment placed pressure on both teachers and learners. The delegation urged authorities to repair infrastructure, improve safety, and support teaching and learning.
Mvuyisi Mavatulana told parents that poor school conditions should not be normalised and promised ongoing oversight.
Community Impact
Parents and teachers said the visit brought attention to long-standing problems at the school. They hoped the Department of Education would respond quickly to prevent further risk to learners. Community members said they remained committed to supporting the school and protecting its strong academic record.
