In alignment with the commencement of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) reaffirm their commitment to intensify the battle against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Femicide, and child abuse. The 16 days of activism campaign, an annual event in South Africa, seeks to raise awareness and prompt action against violence directed at women and children. Running from the 25th of November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to the 10th of December, International Human Rights Day, this campaign is a vital platform for activists, non-governmental organizations, and government officials to unite in the effort to end violence.
Initiated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999, the campaign has gained prominence globally and holds particular significance in South Africa due to the alarming levels of gender-based violence prevailing in the country.
The EFF acknowledges the persistent culture of misogyny and the alarming neglect surrounding issues of violence against women and children in South Africa. Gender-based violence remains a grave threat to South African women, manifesting in distressing reports of rape, domestic violence, and femicide.

Highlighting a major contributing factor to the persistence of gender-based violence, the EFF points to a lack of political will and insufficient allocation of resources to address the issue. Despite the pervasive nature of gender-based violence, numerous law enforcement agencies appear to downplay its severity, leading to instances of gross negligence in handling abuse cases. This negligence erodes public trust in government institutions and fosters a culture of impunity for perpetrators.
In response to these challenges, the EFF has taken concrete steps to address the issue head-on. The party has established EFF GBV Comfort Centres in all of its offices, providing victims with a crucial first line of defense, support, and a pathway to healing. Additionally, the EFF has launched extensive self-defense programs across its branches, empowering individuals to protect themselves.
The EFF emphasizes the need for collective action against the abuse of women and children, not just during the 16 days of activism but at all times. By launching these initiatives, the EFF seeks to underscore the importance of sustained efforts to eradicate gender-based violence and create a society where the rights and safety of women and children are paramount.
