EFF Central Command Team member, Commissar Ncedo Kolanisi, spent the morning with students from King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) TVET College who were arrested during a recent strike. Among those detained were three underage learners, taken into custody without their parents’ knowledge and without the required presence of a social worker.
The arrests, which students described as unlawful, sparked concerns over the violation of learners’ rights and proper legal procedures. Commissar Kolanisi, representing the EFF, intervened by providing legal support to the affected students.
Through this intervention, the matter was taken to court, where the case was struck off the roll due to insufficient evidence. This outcome was seen as a relief to the students and their families, who had raised alarm over the handling of the arrests.
The EFF reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of learners and students across the country, condemning the unlawful treatment of minors. The party stated that it will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that justice and accountability are upheld.
