The Economic Freedom Fighters have approved the voluntary resignations of two high-ranking leaders, Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and Yazini Tetyana, from the Parliament of South Africa in a surprise move. This move comes amidst the tensions within the party and speculations over what might be the future of the EFF’s leadership.

In the statement issued by the EFF, both Ndlovi and Tetyana, in identical letters addressed to the party’s Secretary-General, thanked the party for affording them an opportunity to serve both it and the people of South Africa. Their contributions were also applauded by the party, which hailed them as “exemplary” and “commendable” public representatives.

Ndlozi was one of the co-founders of the EFF. He joined the National Assembly in 2014 and since then has remained one of the most vocal people in the leadership of the party. Tetyana has experience in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature and Parliament of South Africa.

The resignations come after public fallout between EFF’s Ndlozi and EFF leader Julius Malema, amidst speculation over his future in the party. Recent months have not been easy for the EFF as several senior leaders resigned from the party.

The EFF is thus at a moment of great change, and with that comes a lot of questions about the future leadership and direction of the party. Ndlozi and Tetyana’s resignation marks the end of an era in the EFF, and how the party will adjust is yet to be seen.
