EFF Applauds Arrest of AKA Murder Case Suspects

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have issued a statement commending the South African Police Service (SAPS) for the recent arrests made in connection to the tragic murder of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane in Durban last year.

On February 10th, 2023, Forbes and Motsoane were fatally shot outside a restaurant in Durban. Following a dedicated investigation, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and his team successfully apprehended six suspects linked to the crime. The alleged masterminds were captured hiding in eSwatini over the weekend, adding to previous arrests made last year.

According to the EFF statement, each suspect played distinct roles in the murder, highlighting the disturbing prevalence of organized crime and easy access to illegal firearms in South Africa. The party underscored the urgent need to dismantle criminal networks, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal, where murder rates are alarmingly high.

The EFF praised Lt. General Mkhwanazi for his professional approach to the case, avoiding sensationalism and focusing on concrete results. The party expressed solidarity with the Forbes family and emphasized that justice must be served to all involved.

Moving forward, the EFF urged SAPS to maintain its efforts in dismantling organized crime networks and combating the illegal firearms trade, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and security of all South Africans.
