A media statement issued by the Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) confirms the suspension of three (3) Alfred Nzo East education district educators. According to the statement, these educators have been suspended for alleged sexual misconduct.
The three educators were suspended following a preliminary investigation conducted by the district, which confirmed some of the allegations.
The statement reports that two (2) were served on the 24th of March 2023, while the third (3rd) was served on the 27th of March 2023, because he was not available on the first serve.
It is believed that a team of psycho-social support has been activated and counselling and debriefing the affected learners had been started last week, as one of the affected learners left school and attempted suicide.
The department says, both the provincial and district offices are monitoring the situation and providing necessary support to avert any loss of life due to the alleged sexual misconduct. Investigation to the allegations is still continuing.
