Eastern Cape schools benefits in 2.7 million rands equipments during the EC leg of the netball trophy tour

Eastern Cape Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture MEC – Nonceba Kontsiwe has handed over netball equipment worth Two Million-791, 768.00 Rands to netball clubs, hubs and schools during the provincial leg of the Netball World Cup Trophy tour.

The equipment has been handed over in all six districts and two metros in the province during the tour which started on the 28th of June in Joe Gqabi District and ended Sunday, the 3rd of July with a handover to the Western Cape in Tsitsikama.

A total of 66 clubs; 13 leagues, 23 hubs of netball development and 28 schools across the province have benefited from the exercise. MEC Kontsiwe said she wanted the trophy tour to leave a lasting impact on each district and metro visited,

“We saw it prudent that we handover equipment in each district and metro the Netball World Cup Trophy visited. It forms part of our legacy project. The aim is to address the challenges faced by our clubs, leagues, hubs and schools of equipment shortages. The 2.7 million rand equipment will go a long way in our bid of changing the narrative. We hope to see a girl child who will represent the country in netball coming from the rural outskirts of the province who will attribute her success to our continued interventions,” said Kontsiwe.
