EASTERN CAPE PROSECUTOR ACCUSED OF RAPE RELEASED ON BAIL

An Eastern Cape Prosecutor accused of raping a 23-year old university student has been granted bail in the Mthatha Magistrates court.

Manzolwandle Nkubungu(37) who is based in Komani was released on R3500 in Tuesday.

NPA spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, says he will be joined by his co-accused, Ntuthuzelo Tsoso, who is also out on bail, during their next court appearance in November.

“The University student was allegedly sexually assaulted while sleeping at the prosecutor’s home after a night out last year”, said Tyali.

He says Tsotso was arrested soon after the matter was reported and further investigations linked Nkubungu to the incident which led to his arrested on Monday.

“The NPA views this case, which falls in the realm of gender-based violenc, in a very serious light and has commenced internal labour relations processes against the Komani-base procecutor”, he added.

Tyali further added that the enrollment of the case against their own was a clear indication that if there was enough evidence against anyone then the NPA would prosecute without fear or prejudice.
