Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane has welcomed the deployment of additional police resources to the province, aimed at addressing escalating gang violence and extortion in key areas. The reinforcement, announced by National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, includes multidisciplinary teams from the SAPS National Headquarters, detectives, and operatives from the National Intervention Unit.
Premier Mabuyane commended the decisive action, following recent community engagements led by Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu. The deployments will work closely with local law enforcement to dismantle criminal networks terrorizing communities.
“The safety of our citizens is paramount. We will not tolerate criminal activities undermining our people’s well-being and economic stability,” said Premier Mabuyane. He praised SAPS members for seizing R1 million worth of drugs in Gqeberha and urged communities to report suspicious activities, supporting the police in restoring peace and order.
The reinforced police presence sends a clear message to those involved in gang violence and extortion: the Eastern Cape will not be a safe haven for criminal activities.
