Eastern Cape Transport MEC Xolile Nqatha met with community leaders from eMaxesibeni and KwaBhaca on 20 August to give feedback on development projects planned for the region.
The meeting focused on progress by the department’s project team and outlined new initiatives that will improve local infrastructure and community safety.
Among the projects under design and set to roll out soon are: A pedestrian bridge in Phakade, the deployment of police officers in Phakade, construction of a new public transport taxi rank in KwaBhaca, upgrades to the T17 road between Mtsane and Matatiele, measures to curb livestock theft
Speaking at the gathering, MEC Nqatha said his department remains committed to delivering despite financial constraints. “It is our duty as a department to fix and maintain roads in the province. The upgrade of the T17 road is progressing, with the first phase set to begin in the next financial year. For the KwaBhaca taxi rank, engineers have already been appointed to design the project,” he explained.
The MEC confirmed that another community meeting will take place before the end of November, where more detailed progress updates will be shared.
