The Eastern Cape’s senior leadership gathered on 5 November 2025 for the Premier’s Annual Strategic Leadership Engagement, a high-level platform focused on reflection, alignment, and future planning. The meeting brought together provincial executives, mayors, municipal managers, and heads of key institutions to assess progress and set clear priorities for the year ahead.
What Happened
The engagement assembled a broad leadership group, including MECs, Executive Mayors, Mayors, the Director-General, Heads of Departments, CEOs, municipal managers, DDGs, CFOs, Chief Risk Officers, Chief Audit Executives, and Strategic Management heads.
Discussions centred on strengthening governance systems and improving coordination across provincial and local government. Leaders examined audit outcomes, risk management practices, and the overall performance of public institutions. The session also encouraged collective problem-solving to address persistent service delivery gaps.
Official Response
Provincial leaders emphasised the need for unity of purpose and disciplined implementation. “This engagement helps us reflect honestly, tighten our systems, and plan better for our communities,” one senior official said.
The Premier’s office emphasized that the province must focus on accountability, transparency, and effective governance to deliver tangible results.
Community Impact
Stronger governance and improved alignment are expected to enhance service delivery across the Eastern Cape. Better planning and oversight will also help municipalities respond more effectively to community needs, strengthen financial controls, and build public trust. Residents can expect clearer targets, improved monitoring, and more coordinated action between municipalities and provincial departments.
