The Provincial Disaster Management Centre in Bhisho began a five-day training programme on 8 December 2025. The session focuses on the use of the Provincial Disaster Management Applications System (PDMAS), a digital platform built to improve disaster management across the Eastern Cape.
Officials said the system will support District and Metro Disaster Management Centres by improving daily coordination and creating a single source of credible information.
Strengthening Disaster Response Capacity
PDMAS offers automated tools that help teams respond faster during emergencies. The system also protects critical disaster data and reduces operational costs by replacing manual reporting processes.
Trainers said the programme aims to equip municipal officials with practical skills they can apply immediately. Participants will learn how to capture incidents, monitor risks and manage resources during major events such as floods, storms or fires.
Improving Coordination Across the Province
The Provincial Disaster Management Centre said stronger digital systems will help the province respond more efficiently to increasing climate-related hazards. Officials noted that consistent reporting and faster information sharing remain key to saving lives and protecting infrastructure.
