A shocking incident of violence has rocked Shushu High School in the Eastern Cape, leaving a Grade 12 learner hospitalized with serious injuries. According to reports, the learner was assaulted by a security guard on school premises in the evening.
Eastern Cape Education MEC Fundile Gade has strongly condemned the incident, expressing shock and concern over the alleged attack. “We need to protect our children and not destroy them,” MEC Gade said. “These recent incidents of learners being injured at school are concerning to us. We condemn these incidents and will do everything in our power to bring justice to the child.”
A multi-disciplinary team from the Alfred Ndzo West District will visit the school on Monday to conduct a preliminary investigation into the matter. The district director and team have already met with the victim’s family and opened a case against the alleged perpetrator.
The learner is currently receiving treatment at Madzikane kaZulu hospital in Mt Frere, where hospital staff are monitoring her injuries.
MEC Gade’s swift response to the incident highlights the department’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of learners in the province. As the investigation unfolds, the community remains vigilant, demanding justice for the injured learner.
