  • Preparation for the G20 Provincial Education Indaba: The Eastern Cape Department of Education has confirmed that all arrangements are finalized for the significant G20 Provincial Education Indaba scheduled for 20 August 2025 at the East London International Convention Centre.

  • Purpose and Focus of the Indaba: The Indaba aims to reinforce the Eastern Cape’s role in South Africa’s participation in the G20 platform, focusing on developing future leaders, improving quality education, and aligning strategies with national and global priorities.

The Eastern Cape Department of Education has confirmed that all preparations are complete for the highly anticipated G20 Provincial Education Indaba, taking place on 20 August 2025 at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC).

Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Dr Reginah Mhaule, will lead the event alongside Eastern Cape MEC for Education, Mr Fundile Gade. They will be joined by Buffalo City Metro Executive Mayor Princess Faku, and Amathole District Municipality Executive Mayor Anele Ntsangani.

The leaders held a media briefing at the ICC, where they outlined the importance of the gathering in strengthening the province’s contribution to South Africa’s role in the global G20 platform. The Indaba will focus on building future leaders, advancing quality education, and aligning provincial strategies with national and international priorities.

The G20 Education Indaba will bring together policymakers, education stakeholders and government representatives to discuss challenges and opportunities within the sector. It aims to showcase the Eastern Cape’s commitment to strengthening education systems while promoting inclusive growth and skills development.

With the backing of the Department of Basic Education and local government leaders, the Eastern Cape is positioning itself as a key voice in shaping South Africa’s G20 education agenda.
