Mthatha born Hip Hop artist, producer and DJ, Don Sage, will bring his explosive flair and energy to long time Hip Hop, and South African award-winning platform, the Soul Clap Sessions on May 14th in Coffee Bay.
Don Sage, given name Brian Jennings, spoke to the Pondoland Times from the comfort of his home and recording studio based in Norwood, Mthatha.
“It means a lot (headlining the Soul Claps). The brand has been a part of EC Hip Hop for a while now and I’ve been blessed to have taken part a couple of times. Getting the honor of headlining it is beyond words,” he said about his coming performance.
Like all artists, he has been working on new material and is looking forward to sharing it and crowd favourites like Rain. When commenting on what the audience should expect, he responded, “It’s going to be a mix of both old songs and new material.”
After the year long lockdown on the creative industries, he is looking forward to more performances in the future. “Well everything is still opening up so I’ll see as the time goes…,” he said.
Don Sage, who has helped keep Mthatha Hip Hop alive, through his craft, for 15 years also runs ISC concepts, a media company specialising in graphic and web design. This is has been his main source of income for two years, although he has been a graphic designer for 10 years.
“I run a media company that keeps the boat afloat. Juggling everything is hard and it can get quite exhausting but it’s worth it,” he said about the complexities of being an artist and business owner.
