Official Response

MEC for Agriculture, Nonceba Kontsiwe, will lead the proceedings, emphasising the department’s commitment to accessible and practical research dissemination.

“Field days such as these are crucial in transforming how farmers access and apply technology,” said a department representative. “They allow for interactive, inclusive engagement between farmers, researchers, students, and extension officers.”

Organisers noted that traditional outreach methods like brochures and extension visits are no longer sufficient on their own, and events like this are needed to create more direct, community-based uptake of innovations.

Community Impact

The event aims to drive real change on the ground:

  • Farmers will access proven, climate-resilient farming solutions to improve productivity.
  • Learners will explore career paths in agriculture and science.
  • Local communities will benefit from stronger collaboration between government, research institutions, and smallholder farmers.

By holding the event in the heart of the Amathole District, the institute aims to reinforce its regional commitment to rural development and food system resilience.
