Deputy President of South Africa Paul Mashatile, 0n 8 September 2025 officially opened the 12th South African AIDS Conference at Emperors Palace in Gauteng. In his role as Chairperson of the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC), the Deputy President led this important gathering under the theme “Unite for Change – Empower Communities and Redefine Priorities for HIV/AIDS.”
The event brought together leaders, researchers, academics, implementing partners, and advocates from South Africa, the continent, and beyond to discuss new strategies in the fight against HIV and improving its management.
Joining the Deputy President at the Opening Plenary were SANAC Civil Society Forum Chairperson Mr Solly Nduku, SANAC Private Sector Forum leader Ms Mpumi Zikalala, Minister of Health Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, and Gauteng Health MEC Ms Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko. Development partners, including UN Agencies and representatives from the US Government, also participated in the session.
