Delegates from the Provincial Outreach Programme visited the Nemato Ultra-Filtration Water Treatment Plant site in Port Alfred on 27 November 2025. The visit formed part of efforts to strengthen coordination and improve service delivery in Ndlambe Local Municipality.
What Happened
The delegation toured the 2.3 ML/day Ultra-Filtration installation project to assess progress and view the new infrastructure. The R16.8 million upgrade is designed to improve potable water quality, increase daily supply and enhance reliability for households across Wards 6 to 10.
Officials observed the installation of modern UF membrane technology, new mechanical and electrical systems and advanced SCADA automation. They also reviewed civil construction work that supports the expanded plant capacity.
Project Benefits
Once completed, the plant will add 2.3 million litres of clean water per day to the municipal system. This increase will help stabilise supply, reduce interruptions and support long-term water security for communities in Ndlambe.
Officials said the upgrade is a crucial investment in public health and local economic development. Reliable water helps businesses operate, supports social services and strengthens resilience during drought cycles.
Community Impact
The visit gave delegates a firsthand understanding of how the project will improve service delivery. They noted that the expansion will benefit residents, schools and local industries that depend on consistent water access.
