Dan Marokane Assumes Role as Eskom Group Chief Executive

Date:

Today marks a pivotal moment for Eskom as Dan Marokane officially steps into his role as the Group Chief Executive. Marokane’s return to Eskom couldn’t come at a more critical juncture, as the organization grapples with significant challenges and undergoes transformative changes with load shedding affecting daily lives of South Africans.

In a statement released by Eskom’s Board, Chairman Mteto Nyati expressed confidence in Marokane’s leadership abilities, highlighting the need for bold and decisive action during these trying times. Nyati emphasized the collective commitment of Eskom’s leadership and staff to navigate the organization toward stability and sustainability.

We expect Dan and his leadership team to accomplish at least two critical tasks. First, they must address the current business challenges. Loadshedding must become a thing of the past. Second, they need to reposition and restructure Eskom to enable growth and sustainability, – said Nyati.

Marokane, who previously served in various roles within Eskom, including as Group Executive of Transmission, brings a wealth of experience to his new position. As he takes the helm, Marokane has been tasked with prioritizing several key areas in his first 100 days.

These areas include assessing the Generation Operational Recovery Plan, reviewing Eskom’s unbundling plans, and engaging with both internal and external stakeholders. The first 100 days are crucial for Marokane to gain insights into Eskom’s operations and the industry as a whole.

Dan has the full support of the Eskom Board. Eskom employees are excited to welcome him back into the organization. We invite all South Africans to rally behind him as he steers Eskom toward stability, reliability, and sustainability, – concluded Nyati.

Marokane’s leadership will be closely watched in the coming months as Eskom continues its journey to overcome challenges and emerge stronger than ever before.
