DA Slams CSA’s Racial Quotas, Calls for Merit-Based Selection

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has voiced strong opposition to Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) rigid transformation quotas, arguing that they prioritize numbers over genuine player development.

This follows CSA’s decision to deduct five points from the Warriors, eliminating them from the playoffs for fielding two black African players instead of the required three in their February 16 match against the Dolphins. DA Deputy Spokesperson on Sports, Arts & Culture, Liam Jacobs MP, condemned the move, saying true transformation should focus on grassroots development, access to facilities, and equal opportunities for all players, regardless of race.

The DA maintains that merit, skill, and performance should be the primary selection criteria, rather than racial classifications that undermine the spirit of competition and constitutional non-discrimination principles.
