The Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM), in partnership with the Winnie Madikizela Mandela Local Municipality (WMMLM), hosted the annual Isicathamiya and Beauty Contest Festival on 01 November 2025. The vibrant event aimed to uplift local artists, promote unity, and boost tourism within the region.
What Happened
The Cultural and Isicathamiya Festival brought together musicians, models, dancers, and designers from across the Alfred Nzo District. Participants competed across five categories for various prizes, showcasing a mix of traditional and modern creativity.
The event served as a platform for emerging talent, giving artists a chance to gain exposure while strengthening community ties. It also drew visitors from surrounding areas, adding momentum to local tourism and small business activity.

Municipal officials from both ANDM and WMMLM praised the success of the event. They noted that festivals like this promote cultural preservation, youth empowerment, and economic growth.

Community Impact
Beyond performances, the festival made a meaningful contribution to local learners. Twenty scholars from three schools received sanitary towels and cosmetics an initiative designed to support young girls from disadvantaged backgrounds and promote dignity in education.
Residents expressed pride in the event’s inclusive spirit and its role in showcasing the district’s rich cultural heritage.
