Police in Gqeberha seized R2.2 million worth of counterfeit goods in a major raid in Korsten.The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Eastern Cape carried out the raid on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, targeting a suspected transnational criminal network. The operation, based on intelligence from the SAPS Sea Border Office, involved a multi-disciplinary team comprising Border Policing, the K9 Unit, Crime Intelligence, and several other agencies.

Raids were conducted at a wholesale shop on Durban Road and a warehouse on Daisy Road. The items confiscated included a large quantity of unregistered medicines and suspected counterfeit consumer products, raising serious concerns about public health and safety.

Among the seized goods were:17,430 Viagra pills, 224 bags of Viagra Jelly, 2,640 Adcodol tablets,6,480 Apetito tablets,

3,560 pregnancy test kits,4,680 skin creams,648 Colgate toothbrushes,1,584 units of Kiwi Shoe Polish,106 mouse traps. All items are believed to have been intended for resale through illegal channels.

The operation concluded without any arrests, injuries, or damage to property. Investigations are ongoing, with SAPS now working in partnership with the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) and brand owners to verify the authenticity and safety of the seized goods.

Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, the Acting Provincial Commissioner for the Eastern Cape, hailed the bust as a blow to criminal networks. This R2.2 million seizure disrupts criminal businesses that exploit consumer safety for profit.”

Authorities have emphasized the importance of public vigilance when purchasing consumer goods and medication, urging the public to report any suspicious activity or products to law enforcement. As investigations continue, more developments are expected in the coming weeks.
