The National Commissioner of Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has initiated a thorough investigation into claims of special treatment on some inmates.
Amidst serious allegations, Commissioner Samuel Thobakgale has appointed a senior official at the Deputy Commissioner level to delve into these claims. The investigator will scrutinize the validity of the accusations, focusing on whether any inmates have received privileges or treatments that violate DCS policies.
“The integrity of our correctional facilities is paramount,” Thobakgale stated. He emphasized that the DCS is dedicated to ensuring fairness for all incarcerated individuals, regardless of their socioeconomic status. The investigation will not only address specific allegations but will also evaluate the standard operating procedures at Westville Correctional Centre to guarantee alignment with core values of integrity and impartiality.
As the investigation unfolds, it seeks to reaffirm the Department of Correctional Service’s commitment to maintain accountability and transparency across all 243 correctional facilities nationwide.
