The Directorate of Municipal Capacity Development of Cogta Eastern Cape hosted the National COGTA and Provincial Human Resources Forum in Jeffreys Bay. The session brought together HR representatives from all provinces to review key policies, legislation and reports on professionalism in the municipal sector.
Forum Focuses on Strengthening Municipal HR Systems
The forum acts as an essential platform for improving cooperative governance. Delegates discussed strategic HR practices that align with national, provincial and local government priorities. Key issues included senior management appointments, professionalisation standards and compliance with sector-wide HR frameworks.
Officials said improved HR systems remain critical for building capable and ethical municipalities. They emphasised that strong leadership at municipal level directly supports service delivery and public trust.
Building a Capable and Ethical Local Government Sphere
The forum also encouraged knowledge sharing across provinces. Participants exchanged experiences, challenges and solutions to enhance professionalism within municipal HR units.
COGTA said these engagements help strengthen intergovernmental relations and ensure consistency in HR practices across the country. By creating a unified platform for dialogue, learning and collaboration, the department continues to promote a well-governed, ethical and professional municipal sector.
