A 39-year-old Clinical Associate has been suspended by the Eastern Cape Health Department, following rape allegations held against him by a female patient at Mt. Ayliff hospital on Thursday, 08 December 2022.
A media statement release states that the accused locked the door of the consultation room during the consultation session with the victim and raped her while nurses tried knocking and gaining entry.
The victim is said to be a regular patient who receives her services at the hospital.
The patient received immediate support from the hospital and district management after the incident was reported. South African Police Services (SAPS) have been informed of the incident.
“It is even more serious when such incidents are alleged to have occurred within our facilities where patients entrust our officials with their health and confidentiality”, says Eastern Cape Health MEC Nomakhosazana Meth.
“The department condemns the incident and will continue to cooperate with our law enforcement agencies as they investigate and manage the case to its conclusion”, says the Eastern Cape Department of Health.
The victim and her family have been provided with Psyco Social Support.
